My Approach

IMG_2394_edited_edited.jpg

My approach is encouraging, warm, honest and authentic, with a good amount of humour (where appropriate) and, I hope, an enjoyable experience of growth and development as you adopt more helpful ways of being and achieving both your goals and your potential.

I have many years of experience in the medical sector, and I've always been intrigued at the mind/body 'connection'. The concept that our emotional state can have an effect on us physically is relevant for me. I am interested in the whole person and what might be connecting both mentally and physically for you, and how we might make sense of that together and move things forward in your life.

I am very committed to walking my talk and, having worked with my own personal issues, I can offer (based on real life experience) a truly empathic understanding to the challenges and issues you face.

In order to get the best outcomes for my clients, I draw from psychoanalytical perspectives, attachment-focused EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and developmental theories. I focus on developing an inclusive, holistic approach, enabling us to work in a relational way, so you can feel safe and held in the work we do.

I am fully accredited with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), and the EMDR UK Association. There is a rigorous 5 yearly re-accreditation procedure, which ensures that my practice is well regulated, and meets the standards of clinical excellence.

Over the years I have worked with people from a wide range of organisations, e.g. Cambridgeshire Constabulary, Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service, British Rail, and Peterborough Rape Crisis. In addition, as well as currently working in G.P. Practice, I have worked with referrals from pain consultants both in Cambridge and Harley Street.

Whilst in Cambridgeshire, I also worked alongside medics treating military personnel, including the Army, RAF Brampton, Lakenheath and Marham, as well as the MOD. During this time I was privileged to work with hostages, war veterans and victims of violence.

This whole experience has given me a tremendous insight, compassion and interest in trauma in many forms, both with a capital 'T' (the big events) and also those with a small 't' (the things we dismiss that can accumulate over the years). I work with both, attending to them with support and compassion, so that they no longer negatively impact in your everyday life.
